Abstract: | Key findings •• Grain shattering is a significant cause of grain yield loss in wheat, accounting for 11–13% of the variability in grain yield in this experiment. •• Genetic variation exists for grain shattering in Australian wheat varieties. •• However, grain shattering is also controlled by the environment, and this will influence choice of variety. |
