Abstract: | The 1993-94 Annual Report of the New South Wales National Parks and Wildlife Service highlights a transformative year marked by significant organizational changes and operational challenges. A major government resource supplementation package provided over $27 million in additional funding to enhance service delivery across the state. The Service responded effectively to unprecedented bushfires in January 1994, with over 670 staff members participating in firefighting efforts and subsequent regeneration work. Notable achievements included the establishment of four new national parks, including Jervis Bay National Park, expanding the Service's estate to 4.94 percent of the state. Under the leadership transition from Dr. Neil Shepherd to Ms. Robyn Kruk as Director-General, the Service implemented structural reforms, including new regional zone teams and a media unit, to improve off-park conservation efforts and public communication. Infrastructure improvements, such as the $2.4 million redevelopment at Fitzroy Falls, enhanced visitor facilities. The Service also strengthened its focus on biodiversity conservation through initiatives including a western NSW biodiversity project and a state-wide rock-wallaby survey. |
