Abstract: The 1992 Annual Report of the New South Wales National Parks and Wildlife Service chronicles a year of significant organizational changes and conservation achievements. Under new ministerial leadership following the Hon. Tim Moore's resignation, the Service expanded its protected areas through the proclamation of Nattai National Park and Cockle Bay Nature Reserve, while rationalizing its state recreation area system. Key initiatives included launching the Aboriginal Employment and Training Plan 1991-96, implementing the Endangered Fauna (Interim Protection) Act 1991, and advancing wilderness area assessments. The Service managed approximately 24 million visitor interactions while maintaining a low staff turnover rate of 4.2%. Notable progress was made in biodiversity conservation through the development of the Natural Heritage Conservation Strategy and commencement of systematic studies in north-east NSW forests. The Service faced challenges in administering new endangered fauna legislation that conflicted with government policy, while successfully transitioning to accrual accounting practices.
