Abstract: The 1991 financial year marked a period of significant transformation and consolidation for the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service. Major legislative initiatives included the introduction of Aboriginal ownership provisions for culturally significant parks and reserves, and pioneering karst conservation legislation enabling volumetric dedication of subterranean areas. The Service demonstrated strong financial management by repaying a $1.92 million Treasury loan ahead of schedule and achieving a small recurrent surplus despite a record bushfire season. Notable operational achievements included the addition of 6,254 hectares to the Service's estate, implementation of a new Corporate Plan (1991-94), and a 15% increase in concession and rental revenue. Staff remuneration and conditions were addressed through new salary agreements, while Aboriginal engagement was strengthened through an Employment and Training Plan.
