Abstract: This report documents the significant achievements of the New South Wales National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) during the 1995-96 fiscal year, marking the first full year of the Carr Government's environmental initiatives. Key accomplishments include the passage of the Threatened Species Conservation Act 1995, the establishment of 26 new national parks and nature reserves (exceeding the initial commitment of 24), and the declaration of seven new wilderness areas with two expansions under the Wilderness Act 1987. The report highlights the successful integration of the Metropolitan Regional Parks Unit, with notable progress in Western Sydney and Rouse Hill Regional Parks. Additionally, NPWS provided strategic input into the development of the Interim Forestry Assessment Statement and the implementation of the National Forestry Policy Statement. These achievements reflect the Service's enhanced organizational efficiency following internal restructuring and demonstrate substantial progress toward the government's environmental conservation objectives in New South Wales.
