Abstract: This report documents the establishment and first year of operations of the new National Parks Service in New South Wales from July 1966 to June 1967. The Service was created as a separate branch to handle functions related to National Parks, State Parks, and Historic Sites in preparation for pending legislation to establish an autonomous National Parks and Wildlife Service. Key achievements included the investigation of potential new park areas, development of fire protection policies, establishment of ranger training programs, and initiatives in public education and interpretation.
