Abstract

A geohydrological investigation at Evan’s Head has prcfveepL.,^ at least 32 feet of water-bearing sand and gravel with at least 52 feet of alluvial material. Supplies should be large and test drilling has been recommended for a town water supply in the right bank of the Evan’s River.

A survey of the groundwater resources of the Yamba-lluka area has proved at least 20 feet of water-bearing sand and gravel at Yamba, which provides a town supply of 8,700 g.p.h., from one six inch bore. Large supplies should be obtained from the delta and dune sands at lluka and test drilling for a town supply has been recommended.

Preliminary investigations in the village of Bowning indicate that a town water supply can be obtained from underground sources but the quality will be such that it will not be suitable without treatment for domestic use except in septic tanks.

A survey was carried out in July and August 1963 to assess the possibility of obtaining a watersupply forthe town of Tumbar umba from underground sources. Rocks out-cropping in the area are Silurian schists, slates and quartzite, intruded by granite; Tertiary basalt underlain by a deep lead; and Quaternary alluvial flats along Tumbarumba Creek. The Silurian sediments, the granite, and the basalt are impervious except for joints and fissures and can be discounted as a possible source for a town water supply
