Abstract: Key findings • Chickpea variety choice can have a large effect on the build-up of the Root Lesion Nematode (RLN), Pratylenchus thornei (Pt) in the soil. • Desi chickpea lines increased Pt populations by between 1.8 times (CICA1009) up to 8.4 times (CICA0907) compared to the starting soil population at sowing in 2010. • National variety trials (NVT) are a potential source of reliable field assessment of nematode resistance levels.
