Abstract: Key findings • In a very low yielding season, where average site yields were just over 1.0 t/ha there was no response to varying row configuration or plant population. • There was a significant difference in hybrid performance with yield being MR Bazley>MR43>2436. • Grain quality also suffered from the hard season with high screening levels, low hectolitre weight and 1000 grain weights. • Varying population and hybrid did provide limited benefits but the impacts were not large enough to change the final grain receival grade.
