Abstract: Auriferous Tertiary gravels occur near the township of Nundle, 35 miles south of Trmworth in the New England region of N.S.W. Literature research indicated that the gravels might contain sufficient gold values to permit extraction using open cut methods. Field investigations commenced in August 1973, and indicated that tonnages of economic grade were probably insufficient to support a large scale mining operation. The only area of potential ly economic grade is held by Nickel Mines Ltd. under an A. to P. application and several 1ineIdi Lease appi ications. A programme of mapping and sampling was proposed to test smal I areas of the Red Hill deposit within E.L. 548. This programme did not meet the requirements of the Department of Mines and the application for renewal of the Licence was rejected.
