Abstract: Key findings •• There were significant yield responses to both starter phosphorus (P) use and deep P application. •• The lack of a significant interaction between starter P and deep P indicates that starter P and deep P act independently of each other. Thus implying that it is not practicable to overcome P deficits in just one soil layer by amending the other.
