Abstract: Key findings: • Early sowing exaggerates inherent phenological differences of commercial canola varieties. • The fast developing ‘spring’ variety Hyola® 575CL sown 1 April flowered on 12 June. Comparitively, the relatively slow developing ‘spring’ variety 45Y88 CL and the ‘winter’ variety Hyola® 971CL flowered on 20 July and 18 September respectively from an April 1 sowing date. • Highest yields were achieved from 1 April sowing of 45Y88 CL and from 28 April sowing of Hyola® 575CL.
