Abstract: Key findings •Environmental and management conditions such as water availability and sowing date (SD) significantly affected phenological development, grain yield, disease levels and biomass accumulation. •The highest yields at both Wagga Wagga and Leeton were associated with mid to late sowing (SD2 and SD3), and early sowing (SD1) at Condobolin. •The highest yields at both Wagga Wagga and Leeton were associated with the dryland treatment; there was a significant yield penalty associated with irrigation due to increased disease incidence (Wagga Wagga) and lodging (Leeton).
