Abstract: The beryllium-bearing minerals, most important of which is beryl (a silicate of beryllium and aluminium), are of increasing significance, not only because of applications in industrial alloys but also because beryllium is now known to be a most useful structural and moderating (neutron controlling) material in atomic reactors. It is also reported that beryllium is under test overseas for possible use as a rocket fuel
