Abstract: PREAMBLE The need for the Study arose from the realisation that mining leases or licenses were often granted without final resolution of some or all of the following matters This Report has been compiled by the Task Force and the assistance given by the private industry members of the Special Committee is gratefully acknowledged. The Task Force produced an interim report in September 1978 which contained much of the data assembled at that time. The interim report is now superseded by this Report. Memberships of the Task Force and Special Committee as 1st March, 1979 are shown in Appendix 1. State Cabinet on 21st March, 1978 established a Task Force "to guide and draw together the numerous detailed investigations required to develop an overall long term strategy for the export of New South Wales coal, covering exploration, mining, transportation, port loading facilities, employment, environmental, social and any other basic planning factors." he aim of the Task Force was set as the provision of basic data from which can be developed an overall long term export strategy.
