Abstract: | Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) are investigating the modernisation of infrastructure to enable smarter use of water in the Yanco Creek. This work forms part of a series of initiatives within the Sustainable Diversion Limit Adjustment Mechanism (SDLAM) program under the Yanco Creek Modernisation Project (YCMP). One of the options being investigated, to improve water management are re-regulation weirs. DCCEEW are proposing to replace two existing weir structures in the Billabong Creek (Hartwood and Wanganella Weirs). These new structures are proposed to be fully automated, remote controlled re-regulation weirs that also include fish ladders. The upgrade of this ageing infrastructure will allow water flows to better meet irrigation and environmental water requirements and reduce unplanned end of system flows in the Billabong Creek at Darlot. |
