Immense coal resources lie off the central New South Wales coast. A substantial amount of this coal off Newcastle could be extracted now using existing technology. Our knowledge of the resources however is so limited that an extensive exploration programme costing in the vicinity of $10 million dollars would be necessary before the resources could be allocated.-
