Abstract: The Cunnamulla Sheet area was mapped during 1968 by the Bureau of Mineral Resources as part of a regional geological reconnaissance of the Great Artesian Basin. Air photographs at a nominal scale of 1:50,000 taken by the RAAF in 1952 provide a complete coverage of the area. Cadastral maps at a scale of 1 inch to 4 miles are available from the Queensland Department of Lands, and planimetric maps at 1:250,000 scale from the Division of National Mapping, Canberra. Main access to the area is via the Balonne Highway, which traverses the northern margin of the Sheet area, and the Mitchell Highway, which follows the Warrego River and joins Cunnamulla with Charleville to the north and Bourke in New South Wales. Much of the Mitchell Highway and parts of the Balonne Highway are sealed. The remainder of the Sheet area is served by unsealed roads along stock routes which link the Mitchell and Balonne Highways with Jobs Gate on the State border. Cunnamulla, the main centre of settlement, has a small airport with commercial air services from Brisbane and Sydney. Many of the properties in the area have landing grounds. The Cunnamulla railway joins Cunnamulla with Brisbane via Charleville.
