Department of Environment and Climate Change NSW Annual Report 2008-09

Abstract

This report documents the operations and performance of the Department of Environment and Climate Change (DECC) NSW for the 2008-09 fiscal year. As the lead environmental and conservation agency in NSW, DECC implemented key initiatives across climate change mitigation, environmental protection, conservation, and natural resource management. Major achievements included: delivering $150 million in energy efficiency programs; purchasing 145 GL of water entitlements for environmental flows; protecting over 490,000 hectares of native vegetation; and managing 6.7 million hectares of national parks and reserves. The report analyzes DECC's performance against strategic priorities including reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving air and water quality, conserving biodiversity, and increasing Aboriginal participation in land management. Financial statements indicate total operating expenses of $1.05 billion and revenue of $432.7 million. The report demonstrates DECC's integrated approach to environmental management while highlighting ongoing challenges in balancing conservation, climate action and sustainable development. This annual report provides comprehensive documentation of DECC's activities before its merger into the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water in July 2009.
