Resource NSW was established by the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Act, 2001. The new Act was the result of a thorough review of the Waste Avoidance Act, 1995 and an independent inquiry into alternative waste technologies “The Report of the Alternative Waste Technologies and Practices Inquiry” headed by Tony Wright. The result was the establishment of a single agency with State-wide authority that replaced the nine waste Boards that had been situated in metropolitan Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong and Queanbeyan. © State of New South Wales through Museums of History NSW
