The Property Services Group was established in 1989. The group was an administrative office under the Public Sector Management Act, 1988 which operated as an independent and self-funding unit within the administration of the Minister. The impetus the Group's creation was a review of the administration of Government employee housing throughout the New South Wales public sector. On 6 April 1995, the Property Services Group was abolished and its various branches were transferred to other agencies as outlined below:
1) the Homebush Bay Development Corporation was transferred to the Olympic Co-ordination Agency;
2) the City West Development Corporation and Honeysuckle Development Corporation were transferred to the Department of Urban Affairs and Planning;
3) the group of staff attached to the Sydney Cove Redevelopment Authority were transferred to the Department of Urban Affairs and Planning;
4) staff principally involved with the NSW Land and Housing Corporation (known as Landcom) were transferred to the Department of Housing;
5) all other branches were added to the Department of Public Works and Services.
