Most underground accidents, both in this and other coal-producing countries, are caused by falls of roof or side. During the year 1937 72 per cent, of the fatal and 40 per cent, of the reportable non-fatal accidents which occurred in and about the coal mines of this State were due to falls of roof or side. This result calls for the effort of all concerned to reduce to a minimum the number of this class of accident.-
