On the morning of 3rd November, 1959, a heating was detected in a bord in old workings, adjacent to, and almost underneath, the main fan drift, which is driven in stone on a gradient of 1 in 3. This heating was located about 150 yards from the transport tunnel entrance, 35 yards from the fan drift entrance and 25 feet vertically below the fan drift at that point and occurred about 3 yards from the bord face on the left hand rib, centred about 2 feet from the roof and was approximately 2 feet in diameter {see DWG. No. C52).-
