The Marine Parks Authority (MPA) was established by the Marine Parks Act 1997 (Act No.64, 1997) with the aim of managing marine parks for conservation of marine biodiversity and to maintain ecological processes. The Act commenced on 1 August 1997, the responsible Ministers originally being the Minister for the Environment and the Minister for Fisheries. The Marine Estate Management Act 2014 (Act No.72, 2014), which commenced on 19 December 2014, established the Marine Estate Management Authority and the Marine Estate Expert Knowledge Panel, abolishing the Marine Parks Authority and the Marine Parks Advisory Council and the parks advisory committees. © State of New South Wales through Museums of History NSW
